2001 Heitz Bella Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Thursday, September 18th, 2008
In the early 1970’s, Barney and Belle Rhodes purchased 18 prime acres in Rutherford on the west side of Napa Valley. A vineyard on the property, now known as Bella Oaks Vineyard, is the source of this gentle Cabernet Sauvignon. Barney and Belle already had a relationship with the Heitz family, so they gave their first harvest over to the talents of Joe Heitz in 1976. Recognized for its elegance and silky finish, it is it still today one of the most sought after wines at Heitz Cellars.
The 2001 Heitz Bella Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Vallley ($65) has aromas of cherry, earth, stewed meats, stewed tomatoes, dried Italian herbs, red licorice, and mint. On the palate it is medium-bodied with bright cherry fruit, cherry cola, orange zest, anise, and fennel. Alcohol is moderate, acids are refreshing, and tannins are well-integrated. The finish is very long on this classic, subtle California Cab.
